Problem: Our client’s matter management system and SAP General Ledger totals did not balance. Reports generated by the two systems typically displayed different results. This created uncertainty between the finance department, law department and internal clients, and eroded confidence in matter management within the company.
What We Did: The Kiersted / Systems team created a reconciliation tool to download SAP data and compare against matter management details, automatically reconciling exact matches. Additionally, we developed interface tools to allow end-users in the finance department to adjust entries as needed to balance the totals each month.
Results: Within days of the month-end closing, the company was able to balance the two systems and send out accurate reports that were trusted by all. This raised the reputation of the matter management system to that of a valuable, trustworthy tool able to provide a level of detail they had never before had.
