Our History

Kiersted / Systems was founded in 1984 to provide top quality custom application development to corporations. Our initial Wang-based office automation efforts included one of the earliest store-and-forward email systems (for a large corporate client). With the emergence of local area networks, we made the transition to PC-based systems.
In 1989, Kiersted / Systems was made part of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Response Team. We performed database support and custom application development, in addition to supporting the legal defense "back rooms" for the corporation's 1994 trials (in both Alaska state and U.S. federal courts). We also developed an in-court presentation system and image-enabled databases for trial exhibits. Later, Exxon retained Kiersted / Systems for litigation support in other successful cases.
In the mid '90s, Kiersted / Systems made a strategic decision to initiate our involvement in projects earlier in the process, long before they were headed for trial. Our intent was to positively influence the manner in which data was gathered and stored, to more effectively support the information systems-from inception to completion. To achieve those ends, we pioneered some of the earliest image-enabled litigation research systems, as well as highly advanced systems designed for use in the collection of discovery material.
In 1998, our efforts in the areas of litigation research and data collection led us to be selected to support the ExxonMobil merger; this was our first in-depth exposure to the challenge of electronic discovery. In that capacity, Kiersted / Systems built and supported the information systems used to collect corporate documents. In 1999, we were enlisted to undertake our first comprehensive e-Discovery project (as part of the Air Products-Air Liquide merger), in which our proprietary KEPS Review System 1.0 was first utilized.
By 2001, Kiersted / Systems was actively performing e-Discovery using our completely updated KEPS Software Suite, and has been doing so ever since. The past several years have seen a greater focus on the growth and capabilities of our electronic discovery services, including a concentration on hosting those services, rather than providing them on-site. As we have developed and supported custom data-driven applications, Kiersted / Systems has also provided high-level legal technology consulting to our clients. Over time, our litigation-related consulting services were expanded to include the operations side of corporate law departments-from reporting and analysis to the development of systems designed to analyze and track budgets and expenditures. This has evolved into a full-service matter management practice area.
